EU passes “Right to repair” Law to make large appliances easier to repair starting from 2021

    This is great news, but I think it's only half the battle. There needs to be a huge shift in the consumer attitude away from "thing broken, get a new one" towards "make do and mend".

      I think this shift is already happening, but not in all areas of life, particularly fashion. With tech we've seen a few companies shift towards this greener approach, and there are a multitude of other companies which make their brand selling products which are repairable. I've recently purchased a wallet from a company which sells replacement parts, and the wallet came with replacement screws and a screwdriver in the box. I'm very happy with it and will try to use it as long as I can.

      I'm actually not sure what consumer-friendly laws are in place where I live, and this post has encouraged me to look into it. It'd certainly be nice to slow down with all this wasteful planned obsolescence stuff and now with eyes on the environment it might be a good opportunity to really start the push for it in earnest.
