Selected song: Sámr from the album Ámr.

I was in Norway last week and on the way back home l actually met Ihsahn and the band at the plane's boarding gate, which was pretty funny as l only realized that a few moments after l sat down next to them. So l put on their music while flying and have had it stuck in my head ever since.
Still kind of shocked because it's just such a big coincidence.

I found Ihsahn on Spotify a few weeks ago and I've been listening to them(him?) on and off ever since!

I've kind of gone full pop this week. Chance the Rapper and Ed Sheeran's new albums. Crucify me! They're both great and fun. Also, I know a guy in this band so I wanna share Robin Hood by Deal Casino. Love this song about fantasy. And excited for Ra Ra Riot's new album tonight. The lead singles have been good and they worked with Rostam for it.

    David Berman's Purple Mountains

I hadn't listened to any of his stuff before but saw on Twitter that he had committed suicide and a lot of people were really upset about it and said this album was 1) some of the best work he's ever made and 2) a cry for help. I have to agree. With the context of David's passing, this album is just so incredibly sad. Would recommend if you want to cry

Fauré: Pelléas & Melisande If you need something for a summernight in garden or on balcony; to relax before bed or wind down after a busy day, this is a good choice.

Love Faure. Listening to this now. I have some of his pieces for piano and vocal in my collection. Sublime.

p.s. Black Pumas are sick too. It was @Bauke that introduced me to them a few weeks ago. I highly recommend them as well.

Ravel's Bolero, the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Valery Gergiev on youtube. This is an amazing video which is destroyed by at least three video ads interspersed through the piece. I hear that playing through it once and rewinding you're not supposed to get the ads the second time.

In any case, I ordered the CD. But do see the video. Gergiev looks like he's conducting the beginning with a toothpick and is about to ride off on his steed.

James Blake's Assume Form. It's really, really good, but part of my problem with it (as in, I'm not blaming the album, it's just a me thing) is that I'm not really sure what "genre" it's aiming for. It's got hiphop-style beats and some bangers for instrumentals, but then there's this Mark Kozelek-like sort of crooning vocals over top.

This is my first JB album and I'll be sure to dig through his earlier stuff as well.

Just finished listening to "Shaker Loops" by John Adams (performed by JACK Quartet). Hmm...I think I'll search out more contemporary string quartet music to pad out the rest of my day.

The last Leprous, I'm not super fan of the style, but it's super catchy after a few listen. It would probably make a good travel album.
