What mobile games do you play?

I don't play many games on my phone, mostly because I can't find any good ones that arent just lazy cash grabs. What do you play on your phone?

If you're looking for another storytelling game, try Oxenfree. It's quite different to A Dark Room, but it's great. I got it for free on Twitch and Xbox stores and now it's on mobile too.

If you like mystery, adventure or storytelling games you'll like this. The less you know about it going in, the better.

Ah no Android version. Apparently the dev doesn't like how many rip-offs of dark room exist in the Play store.

You can purchase other tribes, which have different starting skills, and some have an exclusive skill tree. Additionally, multiplayer is only unlocked when you have purchased at least one tribe, so they can afford to keep the servers running. They don't have pop-ups or anything, they're just shown as locked in the selection screen, and aren't really necessary.

Well there are rockstar games, say GTA San Andreas or Bully, also Square Enix games, like Chrono Trigger and even originals like Doom and Destiny. These are your typical games that are also on the phone. But as far as "phone" games go, as in games that are specifically made for a phone I really like Kittens Game, as it is perfect for short bursts of attention, Reigns series, and lastly, Ridiculous Fishing is a very rare perfect mobile game that has no monetization beyond initial price.
PS: I've also just found out that some of the Ace Attorney games are on mobile too, so that's an instant recommendation on it's own. For example, Dual Destinies

As a surprisingly big fan of idle games, one of my biggest time sinks has been AdVenture Communist. The game doesn't burden you with ads or microtransactions unless you want to maximise your output.

If you ever pick it up, I would suggest downloading it on iOS or Android. The Steam release is based on a much older version of the game when it was still an AdVenture Capitalist clone and is pretty much abandonware at this point.

I don't really play any substantial mobile games (though I have things like The Witness and XCOM on my iPad), but something that's been occupying all too much of my time is Konami's Portable Pixel Collection. It's a nonogram/Picross game with a huge collection of puzzles, and it's free and ad-free. It even unlocks an "expert mode" when you complete all of the puzzles, which disables the ability to cross-out squares. That adds a pretty fun challenge if you're well-versed at Picross.

    Loosely ordered, higher is "better":

    • Pixel Dungeon and its derivatives (my favorite is Shattered Pixel Dungeon)
      • Free and open source rogue-like. Simple in concept but with a lot of depth (no pun intended) and high replayability.
    • Fancade
      • A fantasy game console that's currently in beta. You can build your own games using its voxel editor and visual scripting, or simply play others'.
    • Mekorama
      • Small, pay-what-you-want game featuring mechanical dioramas with a level editor. Levels have "cards" with QR codes that contain the level's data.
    • lichess
      • Free and open source chess engine, featuring puzzles, online play, etc.
    • Simon Taham's Puzzles
      • Free and open source collection of logic puzzle games.
    • Kingdom Rush

    • Alto's Oddysey
      • Relaxing sandboarding game with simple gameplay and gorgeous graphics.
    • The Battle of Polytopia

I love adventure games on the iPad:

    • Ace Attorney (7 games available on Mobile, three are packaged into one as the “trilogy”)
    • Professor Layton (3 games available with more being ported)
    • Ghost Trick (my favorite game, but there’s only one) It’s amazing. I strongly recommend you dive in without reading or (especially) watching any videos about it. The first two chapters are free.

Then your next bet is to look at games ported from PC:

    • FTL, Faster Than Light. Amazing game, totally worth the ten quid.
    • Prison Architect (although it may stop being updated so I would wait on buying it)
    • Democracy 3 (although it’s not updated with the new expansion)
    • Mini Metro (great to play in the tram while commuting)
    • Vvvvvv
    • Papers Please
    • Invisible Inc
    • Don’t Starve
    • Surgeon Simulator
    • Five nights at Freddy’s
    • To the moon (although I’m holding off so far so I can get it on the switch)
    • Civ 6 (but I’ll probably buy it on the Mac)

I also have a small collection of mobile first games:

    • PinOut, Commute and anything by that developer
    • Fingle and Puzzlejuice
    • Plague Inc
    • The kingdom rush series

Yay, my first Tildes post! My wife got me into Homescapes and she also plays Gardenscapes, but the gameplay is just different enough that I personally don't care to switch between the two of them like she does. It will occasionally ask you to spend money, usually just once on startup, but otherwise it's a kind of a puzzle version of a bejeweled-style swapping game. Puzzle in that there's at least some technique involved in planning moves several in advance and there's usually some way the level designer is intending for you to complete the stage and things are a lot easier if you can figure out how you're supposed to do it.

My wife and I snuggle every night right before we go to sleep and play Seven Little Words. Seven words are broken into two- to four-letter chunks and those chunks are scrambled. You use crossword-style clues to put the words together correctly.

My main game is Hearthstone, it's free with in app purchases, but it's also playable on PC and is a blizzard game so it's probably going to outlive all of us. You really don't need to have all the cards to be competitive, as there are cards that let you start with a premade deck, very competitive decks with common cards, and single player content that is satisfying on its own, either free for the older stuff or paid with in game gold. (Note, a few adventures have rotated and have to be paid for on Blizzards website, but they offer cards no longer in circulation. There are free options there for Icecrown Bosses and the Kobald Dungeon Run as well.)

I was into Hearthstone from Un'Goro to this last expansion, but have finally put it down. I found it did not "spark joy" anymore; I really started feeling the rock-paper-scissors aspect, EVERYONE had BM/it was a rarity to find someone who was polite, and I was just too competitive for a casual player that, by the time I got used to the meta decks, the new expansion would come out and shake it all up.

I enjoyed the time I spent playing it at the Fireside Gatherings though, that was fun meeting people irl who'd played it.

I really like their non-competitive Tavern Brawls wherein you and a friend would battle an NPC together. If there was a game-mode with nothing but that, I'd be all over it.

Pokemon Go will continue to be the only mobile game I play. It encourages getting out and exploring your surrounding area, rewards healthy habits (I walked 70km this past week, with much of that encouraged by the game), and it's a fun way to meet others in your community you might not have met otherwise. I was extremely surprised to find out many of the players I had exchanged gym battles with turned out to be middle aged women who liked playing the game after their kids introduced it to them in the summer of 2016.

Cardinal Chains - cheap, ad free game where you have to connect numbers in a non decreasing order. 500 levels for less than £1 if I remember correctly. Look at the screenshots, they can explain it better than I can.

Honestly, I have largely given up on mobile games because my downtime always seems to be filled with me driving. But I will give a special mention to Another Eden, a free to play RPG that surprisingly enough never seemed to actually require me to purchase any DLC. It's got a soundtrack from Procyon Studio (Yasunori Mitsuda and his talented team) and a story by Masato Kato (writer of Chrono Trigger and it's sequels). I'd consider it to be one of the highest quality phone games out there. IIRC they announced they were going to make a Switch version some time in the future.

I have a (un)healthy aversion to free-to-play games and in-app purchases that aren't of the "upgrade the demo to full version" type, but I do really enjoy playing mobile games. Over time I've collected quite a few quality free and pay-once games for Android that don't annoy me.

My favorites (again, no free-to-pay, pay-to-win, or IAPs (other than converting a demo to the full version):

Spaceflight Simulator): this is essentially a 2D version of Kerbal Space Program. It's really solid -- full version costs a few bucks, but the free version is very generous in its content.

Rusted Warfare: this is a fantastic touch-optimized RTS ala Starcraft or Command & Conquer. Lots of fun.

Stardew Valley: can't recommend highly enough. A relaxing RPG.

Dungeon Warfare: the best tower defense game ever made, imo.

    Oddmar: a beautiful side-scrolling platformer
