      That's my favorite Yes album. If you get sick of it, check out Yessongs which has some great live versions of those songs (and some other good ones.)

    I finally got the money and urge to pick up Prince's 3 CD set The Hits/The B-Sides and I've been listening to that on shuffle. It's great, of course. I do need to be fast with the skip button when...

    I finally got the money and urge to pick up Prince's 3 CD set The Hits/The B-Sides and I've been listening to that on shuffle. It's great, of course. I do need to be fast with the skip button when my son and I listen in the car, because it earns its parental advisory sticker. Most of the songs are fine for kids though.

    First time listening to Binary Star, but I thought it was pretty shitty.

    Everything else here is really solid, and would reccomend to anyone to check out.

      I had never heard of her before, but after it was mentioned in the weekly album release topic I just happened to pick it pretty much at random as something to listen to while I did the song.links, and fell in love with it. I even meditated to it yesterday and it totally mind-fucked me, especially Extreme Love (you will know why if you listen to it). I was about to post in here about it but, lo and behold, it was already mentioned by the top comment! :P

      p.s. LFTL: Holly Herndon - PROTO.

        I've always been a sucker for 'chopped vocals' (or whatever you call it), but the use of a live choir gives it a totally different resonance. I've been listening to Caroline Shaw's 'Partita for 8 Voices' a lot recently by coincidence, and I think PROTO somehow manages to take that very human (and also very fun) vocal sound and make it entirely synthetic. I guess that's what's clever about the album, it somehow still feel strangely humane at the core, almost like the AI singing back is crying for help or something, and the choir triggers that sense of communal ritual that brings something tribal out in you - like sitting around a fire, except it's batshit.

        edit: also if you like a more stripped down sound but keeping that 'ritual' vibe, I'd definitely recommend Forest Sword's 'Compassion'

          Ditto. I love vocal heavy Mashups and Glitch music in general, which is why Holly Herndon's new album caught my eye even though I had never heard of her before. Choral music, Opera, A Capella and even Tuvan throat singing are up there for me too. I seem to enjoy pretty much anything with human vocalization (even heavily distorted) as the primary, predominant or only component, since that hits me emotionally in ways no ordinary instrument seems to be able to, for some weird reason. Speaking of which, since you gave me two really good recommendations that I thoroughly enjoyed (Caroline Shaw - Partita for 8 Voices & Forest Swords - Compassion) here are some kinda randomly cobbled together ones based on your comment that I think you might enjoy as well:

      Danger is great. My only complaint is how he titles all of his songs - apparently they're all supposed to be the time that the song was finished. That's a... decent gimmick, I guess, but it makes...

      He did a lot of the music for the game "Furi", I'd recommend listening through that soundtrack to see if any of the other artists catch your interest. It's on YouTube here, should be on the various streaming services too. He's also doing the entire soundtrack for the developer's next game (Haven), which I'm really looking forward to.

    I've recently stumbled upon a (indie? emo?) rock band called Cursive and already listened to 2 of their albums like 5 times. The album The Ugly Organ is just awesome, an example of an awesome song...

The album The Ugly Organ is just awesome, an example of an awesome song from the album is Art is Hard. The second album I have been really enjoying from them is Vitriola. Here's a song from the album, this one is called Ouroboros The band is a bit different to most emo stuff I've listened to so far but it's great and if anyone knows any similar bands, I would love to listen to them.

    I've been listening a lot to the latest Aaron West & the Roaring Twenties album over the past two weeks.

    For those who don't know what that is, it's a (fictional) folk (pop-punk) band from New Jersey (Philadelphia), narrating the life of Aaron West (Dan Campbell of Wonder Years fame), produced by Ace Enders (of I Can Make a Mess Like Nobody's Business and The Early November fame).

    I have to say, it's almost a better Mountain Goats album than In League with Dragons was.

The only albums that are "new" in my rotation are Magus, Success, Life Metal, Bone Collector, Saturation II, and Halflife. Yes I listen to a lot of DG, it helps pass the time lol

    Been listening to a lot of Geotic and was even inspired to start on a track inspired by his stuff (read: "ripping off"). As with most of the stuff I've been posting, that's just a basic outline....

    has anyone else listened to I Am Easy To Find by The National? i've only listened to it twice but i'm absolutely enthralled, it feels like such an exciting addition to their discography. i love the way the guest vocals are utilized -- i think the AV club put it best in their review:

    Sometimes they spar with Berninger, sometimes they haunt him, and sometimes, as on ā€œNot In Kansas,ā€ they throw him a life raft. Because just when it seems as if heā€™ll drown in his wandering observationsā€”unstuck in time, references to The Godfather, R.E.M., and Annette Bening unspool against a spare, roundabout guitar lineā€”a chorus of voices descends like angels from a UFO.

    but above all it just sounds fantastic. the pianos, the strings, the drum machines, the synths, become more than the sum of their parts, sort of thrust into alliance by Berninger's lyrics. maybe i'm just partial to this album (and this band in general i guess) because i'm also a sad sack of shit, but i'm really enjoying it.

    oh and here's a chart of some of my favorites from this year so far.

      I've been on a bit of a psych pop binge, going through stuff I've heard before and plenty of new stuff, I'm loving it. My favorite find has probably been Auralgraphic Entertainment, this sound collagey thing from the 70s which is a hell of a trip. It overstays its welcome a little, but it's still a good ride.
