I am studying my last book before my interview and exams at Boğaziçi University for a master's in Linguistics. I'll have three exams in May, and if the uni accepts my application and I ace my exams, I may qualify for a master's in the best public uni in the country. Currently studying phonology, and I have another book which I may study if I'll have time (Discourse and Identity, Benwell & Stokoe, Edinburgh University Press). If I'm not rejected before exams, I'll learn the results by the end of May.
I am also working on the rewrite of my blogging engine (when I say "engine", it's more like those in toy cars with little coils, nothing big :)) in type-annotated Python. The current one is in Ruby, and was written more like a script than a proper library. Now I'm working on something more like a framework which provides you with two classes, Collection and Website, and a protocol called Producer. The basic idea is you select files with Collections which use Producers (or strings of them) to generate target files, possibly applying templates, and Websites organise Collections into a website. It is similar to e.g. xmonad in that you write the main(). It'll be possible to extend it via implementing Producers and template engine adapters. There won't be a command like hugo or jekyll etc., the user will write the script using the library, and use whatever build system and scripts they desire. Personally, I like it better like this, because with a proper programming language and all the control at your hands, you don't have to work around the opinions of the blogging engine; and no structure is forced on the user. It is a bit like Hakyll, I think; but I haven't really used Hakyll enough to compare. This method is harder than other stuff because you will need to write a makefile and watcher script etc., but I plan to have extensive docs and a set of complete examples with this, so it won't be as hard.

Hakyll is beautiful but it is in Haskell and I want to focus on a language at this point (I have always hopped around). Python is nice because I can also use it in my research, it has great libraries for statistics, plotting, NLP, etc. Also, I need a pet project, so I am writing my own. Interestingly, when I checked https://www.staticgen.com/ before starting this, Hakyll seemed to be the only one with the library approach.

Also, I looked into Textile from your generator and I wish Markdown was more like it. It's like the perfect amount of ease and expressiveness that I wish Markdown (specifically Pandoc's markdown) had.

Also, I looked into Textile from your generator and I wish Markdown was more like it. It's like the perfect amount of ease and expressiveness that I wish Markdown (specifically Pandoc's markdown) had.
Markdown is good enough, and it has the plus side that it is easy to use it as a front end for LaTeX stuff. But Textile has so much more features, no fragmentation, and I think it is easier to type on mobile (typing links on mobile markdown kill me).
And I understand that language thing. I tried to write a static site generator in Python but I did not get very far, best of luck to you! If you finish it I'd be interesting in putzing around with it :)

Plan of attack: Remove all glass, remove doors, remove hood, strip interior, strip engine bay, strip anything else. The body will then get media blasted on a rotisserie, then body work and paint. Then I have to decide if I want to use the original drive train or swap it with a modern engine/trans.

Not to be crude, but thus far the format sucks ogre dick. It's legit one of the worst I've played. Sealed almost always demands you force 3 colors in any scenario, but green is only support and there's only, like, 4 cards for universal fixing in the entire format, one of which is awful and the remainder sitting at uncommon.
If you liked the midrange decks in the khans era, you might enjoy it, but its basically evasion aggro or midrange valuetown with sparse removal and no good control pieces, with no other decks able to exist. Theres a lot of power in stupid places and a LOT of basically insta-win bombs at rare that are the determining factor anyways, so its all complete RNG if you can build something competitive at any level. I'm not surpised, but I am disappointed.
I think playing Timmy is the only way you really can enjoy the format, since there are so many planeswalkers. Thats kinda what its made for. Draft will probably be way, way worse. I expect there...

I expect there will only be 3-4 decks you can build: any color variation of midrange, 5 color planeswalkers if you snag fixing from the bigger card pool, and U/W fliers. There's technically a U/R spells deck floating around in the set, and maybe with access to more packs itll be easier to make, but I'm not holding my breath.
I'm willing to bet its only going to get worse. Draft tends to amplify the problems of sealed, in my experience.
The level of detail you can get into with mapping is pretty neat. How persistent are streams, though? Seems like they could be highly dependent on weather and easily routed.

Saturday + Sunday, I'm gonna try to get back on schedule with my reading. Been slacking lately. I try to read ~100 pages in the morning (which usually takes me until around noon). Maybe I'll visit a museum. Maybe catch a matinee Sunday. Though...browsing showtimes..doesn't look like anything good's out.

The only exercise I've really found myself dreading is running, and even then not THAT much. Last month, after a long layoff, I started running ~2 miles in about ~20 min and got up to ~4.5 miles in ~30 minutes, 4 days a week. The hardest step being putting on my workout clothes. Next hardest step being, uh, taking the first step. Then it just became a matter of not stopping, even if I felt like crap. Each lap I ran was about 2250 ft and I noticed my energy always dipped from lap 4 to 6, but once I got over that I settled into a comfortable uncomfortable zone and felt I could maintain that pace indefinitely. Of course, I allowed myself some room for improvement each run. Continually breaking your distance record feels pretty good!
That said, I haven't been running since starting this lifting regimen. I've read some things stating that cardio can impede muscle growth. Those effects may have been overstated, but I'm allowing myself to believe it so that I don't have to run. Plus, those are more calories I'd have to recuperate and I already feel like I'm eating too damn much. I've kinda been optimizing for protein when making food choices, so I end up getting around 140-160 g of protein in like 1500 calories. So, as it stands, if I want to cultivate mass, I gotta take in another 1000 calories a day. I consider these my "play calories" that finally allow me to eat/drink some junk. Though, I mostly reserve them for beer. :)

The key takeaways are this - separate the two as much as possible. Opposite ends of the day, consecutive days, or even if just by a few hours (lifting in the morning, running at lunch, etc.). However, if you must do them right after each other, lift first and run after (if mass is your goal), and the reality is the amount of interference you are going to get is pretty minimal.

Trading off to play some Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead when the frustration of failing in a new system gets to be too much.
EDIT: Just playing C:DDA. Picked up Imperator, conquered Great Britain, put it down. The combat was fun, and there's a good bit of strategy with more varied troop types than EU4, but peace is boring and doing more map painting than all of the British Isles wasn't interesting me.

So I've played Paradox games for over 5k hours, and at this point I'm a little burned out on Paradox games, or if not burned out at least really tired of the micromanagement. Pretty much all of their games are great when you're small and have one or two significant armies to manage and only a few cities/provinces/star systems to build in, and the enjoyment scales really poorly because there's not any significant (trustworthy) ability to hand the micro over to the AI.
This is one area where Imperator does actually change things up a good bit. You can set general goals for army stacks and province (more or less like EU4 states) governors, and they'll handle the general things. I confess I didn't get a lot of peace time to see what it was like, but I:R has very limited province development with only 4 buildings (+ tax, + manpower, + fort level, +pop growth) so there's not a lot to be done there. You can manually convert pops to your religion or culture, but it's a one-click and it's done sort of thing, so I was able to control a one-religion one-culture British Isles within months of conquering the last of it. They've promised to change that up, but it may be a little while.
There are peacetime events that have to do with the major characters in your country, and keeping the generals or tribal leaders that control the majority of your troops loyal is an extra level to manage. Pissing them off is the difference between a stable realm and a nasty civil war, so it's definitely an ongoing and important focus. If they go below 33.3% loyalty, they'll take their troops and bugger off home again, even if they were sieging down your wargoal at the time. It's an interesting addition, but (at least playing as a tribal)people are pretty unimportant beyond the heads of clans.
It's a mixed bag. I'll try it some more and see how peace is to give it a fair shake. I stayed near 0 manpower in one long rush to take the British Isles, so I'll see how it is not fighting.
Edit: Peace is really boring. Settling new lands is literally just moving a single pop to that unsettled city and suddenly you control the area despite the existing population. There's basically nothing to do as a tribe, and if you change to be a republic you do need to push and pull the different factions if you want to move your country in a particular direction, but it's much like the republic factions in EU4: you pay your points and the faction you want gains power. I'm sure it'll be more interesting in a few months/years, but if you already have EU4 and CK2, there's no reason to play this bare-bones hybrid.

You can set general goals for army stacks and province (more or less like EU4 states) governors, and they'll handle the general things. I confess I didn't get a lot of peace time to see what it was like, but I:R has very limited province development with only 4 buildings (+ tax, + manpower, + fort level, +pop growth) so there's not a lot to be done there. You can manually convert pops to your religion or culture, but it's a one-click and it's done sort of thing, so I was able to control a one-religion one-culture British Isles within months of conquering the last of it. They've promised to change that up, but it may be a little while.
There are peacetime events that have to do with the major characters in your country, and keeping the generals or tribal leaders that control the majority of your troops loyal is an extra level to manage. Pissing them off is the difference between a stable realm and a nasty civil war, so it's definitely an ongoing and important focus. If they go below 33.3% loyalty, they'll take their troops and bugger off home again, even if they were sieging down your wargoal at the time. It's an interesting addition, but (at least playing as a tribal)people are pretty unimportant beyond the heads of clans.
It's a mixed bag. I'll try it some more and see how peace is to give it a fair shake. I stayed near 0 manpower in one long rush to take the British Isles, so I'll see how it is not fighting.
Edit: Peace is really boring. Settling new lands is literally just moving a single pop to that unsettled city and suddenly you control the area despite the existing population. There's basically nothing to do as a tribe, and if you change to be a republic you do need to push and pull the different factions if you want to move your country in a particular direction, but it's much like the republic factions in EU4: you pay your points and the faction you want gains power. I'm sure it'll be more interesting in a few months/years, but if you already have EU4 and CK2, there's no reason to play this bare-bones hybrid.
I'm going to work Saturday but hopefully finish my homepage redesign (I've set a deadline for myself of May 1). I'm also teaching Sunday School and donating blood on Sunday! Woot.
I wanted to get a start on making some wooden forms for These cement raised planter boxes I want to make but now it's supposed to now and be like -10 degrees overnight on saturday! So that might be too cold for my unheated workshop. Boo, Canada.
Saturday is International Tabletop day I think so we are going to play Mage Knight ALL day, and then on Sunday I have book club which should be fun because I thought the book was pretty interesting (an excess male by maggie shen king) and a couple of the ladies have had babies since I've seen them last, so, new babies to meet!
Yesterday: Avengers Endgame (which was awesome.)
Today: helped Harry Shearer do his weekly NPR show from WNYC (he's in town for a film festival). Next up: hauling ass to Brooklyn for the last couple of hours of the WFMU Record Fair.
As weekends go, this one isn't too bad!
probably just going to sleep a bunch, now that i can actually do that and don't have to do a bunch of schoolwork on the weekends.
My desktop stopped working. Hopefully it is just the power supply and nothing else. So, this weekend, I'll try to get used to using my shitty laptop for productive work. While doing that, I'll find out where to take my desktop..
Oh, my printer also went bye-bye. I don't think I need a printer though, so I won't be buying a new one. Scans are sometimes needed, but I'll just take a picture with my smartphone.
Other than that, I will continue reading a book on Wim Hof method. I will also try to meditate again, since I stopped for no good reason and I now feel bad for not doing it.
I'll probably try to relax some but I really need to spend most of my time studying. Final exams are next week and I really can't do my normal thing and blow them off until the last second
My mom and I MIGHT be going out in her new camper but she just got released from the hospital from some minor issues in regards to her weight-loss surgery so I'm not sure what she'll want to do with that. Otherwise I'm gonna watch some movies with popcorn, write and draw and hopefully hang out with my friend and draw lol
I've been on holiday the past 2 weeks so this weekend is admin and various catch up tasks.
