I recently found some people looking for a bassist (apparently it was a difficult task) and I've been jamming with them. The lead guitarist has missed a few sessions and i had to miss the one he could make, so I've only met/played with the drummer, but we click well I think. We rolled through Californication, Santeria, and Nowhere Fast (Incubus) super quickly and even jammed to a little melody I made myself, so I'm super fuckin' jazzed to be playing! The idea of playing live scares the shit out of me but it's my dream to make and play music so dammit, it's what I'll do. I've been listening to The Smiths lately, and Andy Rourke is greatly influencing how I play. I can't wait to apply it to jam sessions.

I play bass and I get super anxious about playing live too but the experience is completely worth the bit of stress leading up to it. If you and your band are prepared then you you will knock it out of the park. Of course there are always going to be things that can go wrong but you get through them. I saw my friend's bass & drum band play a few weeks and the bass player's E string broke half way through their first song. Luckily, another band let him borrow their bass and they were up and rolling in a minute or two.

Finding a group that you mesh well with is one of the best feelings out there imo. Sounds like you guys have a good foundation. Good luck!

Ha! I have that same habit! Luckily my band plays original stuff so I get to write my own parts. I've never been very interested in playing other people's music unless it's necessary.

We picked up the keys to the new house yesterday (Friday). Today, we went over to the new house and started cleaning it. Then I came back and did some gardening here at the old house (so we'll get our bond back after we leave). Tomorrow, there'll be more cleaning, and more packing of boxes. Monday is for administrative stuff, and running errands, and more packing. We've booked a truck for Tuesday & Wednesday, so there'll be a lot of lifting & carrying on those days.

I think it is going to be rather low key. I think the main things I want to do is to finish wedding ceremony planning. I am getting married in May, and my wife-to-be is doing her bachelorette party this weekend, so I will be solo. I am planning on talking to the event coordinator tomorrow and getting it all finalized.
On Sunday, I am going to have brunch with my friend who co-runs the Burning Man camp I used to run. (Black rock bakery). I guess she is going to ask if I am going to go. I registered for tickets, but I am not sure it would be wise to go: With my wedding and associated honeymoon, I am already at four weeks vacation this year. I thought it would actually be worse than that.. hmm. Perhaps we will go.

I also need to make some ice cream base on Sunday. We just got a new office at work, and I am going to have a liquid nitrogen ice cream party to honor it. I am going to be practicing for the batch that I am going to make for the wedding. I am gonna be doing a chocolate and a cardamom. It has been almost two years since I last made LN2 ice cream. I forgot the recipe, but I think it goes something like 50/50 heavy cream and whole milk, about a cup of sugar per gallon, and about a half pound of chocolate or a few tbsp of cardamom. I used this book "Big gay ice cream" as my guide, but I left it in the trailer for the burning man camp, so I will just wing it. It's a basic Philadelphia style ice cream. So I will whip up about two gallons of base and fridge it till the opening party.

If you can make it happen with your work, I think going would be a fantastic idea. In the best case, 10 years from now, a story about how you got married, went on your honeymoon, and went to a festival like Burning Man in the same year will be a fun story to tell.

This weekend I'm flying between the SF Bay Area and Lake Tahoe for free on this private plane company called Blackbird. They're a startup trying to be "The Uber of Airplanes". They give you 3x $100 off your first 3 bookings if an active user refers you, and a lot of their flights are $99 one-way, so it's basically just 3 free one-ways. I think they're the Moviepass of 2019, basically burning money crazily and I'm just trying to take advantage of it before it ends. I've flown for free on them to LA and Vegas as well. If you would like to be referred message me. I don't want to just put the code here in case that's against Tildes rules (I literally joined 15 minutes ago and am not familiar with the rules yet).

What are you doing this weekend OP?

From the last time I posted the list, only with the done items removed:

If all goes to plan, which it rarely does and this is more a list of things "to do", in some semblance of order of importance...

    1. Weld casters onto the free truck tool box I picked up to use as a rolling storage bin.
    2. Organize the garage so I can work on my cars more easily.
    3. Continue stripping down the race car.
    4. Print all the pieces I need to have available for the upgrades to the printer, the last of which should arrive next week (still waiting on one more piece).
    5. Set up the pi-hole.
    6. Measure and model the parts I'll need to print for my retro case mod computer build.
    7. Install new Vega 64 card, use zip tie to keep it from sagging, take measurements and decide which of the three GPU anti-sag ideas I've come up with will work best/I like the most.

        1. CR10S5 - At the time of purchase (and possibly still true) it was the largest consumer grade printer available, I didn't want to tackle building one from scratch for my first time, and while it wasn't cheap compared to other popular printers, it is significantly less expensive than the next option. So it is simply the best in a performance per dollar metric and that is one of my key decision making points. It's reflected in just about everything I purchase be it for myself or others. I also have very large projects planned to utilize all that space and it's already paid for about 25% of itself by printing big things for others. The upgrade I'm waiting on is a Titan Aero extruder, which will be paired with the volcano hot end I've already received. The very last upgrade I see myself performing is a keenovo bed heater with SSR integration to more evenly heat the bed, but that'll wait until a sale or the price comes down as I'm a patient man and do not pay full price for anything if I can help it.

        2. Remember the old transparent iMac G3? I picked up a dead one for $5, gutted it, and am putting an ITX board, SSD, SFX PSU, and 15" touchscreen in it to use it as an all in one PC to control my CNC machine. Which is my next project after I build my detached garage this summer. It'll also be used to control the vinyl cutter and any future 3D printers (or other computer controlled machinery) that are too large for the closet in my office.

And yeah, you really should play Hollow Knight.

Lots of plans for this weekend, none of them are super exciting:

    (1) Watch a lot of TV shows: new season of Santa Clarita Diet, Sabrina, new Twilight Zone just got added to my friend's server so I'll be swiping that from him sometime soon. I'm still a bit behind on Stranger Things and I have to catch up soonish.
    (2) Last weekend I went to see a screening of Matrix: Reloaded, going to see the 3rd movie at a friend's house
    (3) I'm doing a critical film analysis of the Resident Evil Series watching one movie a weekend. My partner studied film at Uni but doesn't do any work in a related field. So to help scratch that itch we get fucked up and do film analysis of bad movies. We did this for the whole twilight series and the first 3 Resident Evil movies. Going to try and get another movie in sometime.
    (4) Going to a brunch cooking class with my partner in a nearby town. We are thinking about moving there as it would shorten our commutes to work as well so after the class we are going to wander around and see the sights and get a feel for the city. I have a list of food suggestions from friends so we'll probably grab a bite while we are down there depending on how we are feeling.
    (5) I have to travel for work on Tuesday, so I should probably like.... do laundry or do some chores or something stupid and responsible like that I suppose...
    (6) I'm 2% away from 112% completion in Hollow Knight. Going to try and get another %. Probably will fail but I'll have fun trying anyway.

I would suggest it. A couple of good things I'll say about it:

        1. I honestly can't remember a game that pulled me in as strong as Hollow Knight
        2. It has beautiful art and also a beautiful OST. I would definitely suggest making sure you're able to play with sound (it's by no means necessary, I played most the game with no sound on the train. Then listened to the OST on youtube at work one day and it blew my mind).
        3. For $15, you not only get the original game, which is about a $15 platformer value, you also get all 3 DLC's for free. I'm at like 50 hours of gameplay at this point and will easily sink 10-15 more in. That's solid value for a game with no online.
        4. After you beat the game and do some stuff, read about it. Maybe you're better about this than me, but there is a lot of lore that I missed just because I didn't connect dots the game put out in front of me.
        5. This really is more about how much I love the game than a fact about the game. I love this game so much I am in preliminary steps of designing an M.C Escher + Hollow Knight half sleeve tattoo. I have 1 tattoo, never thought I'd get a half sleeve, but I've got an idea for the game characters and artist I love.

I don't really have anything set in stone right now for this weekend. Most likely will be hanging out with my roommate, best friend (and his girlfriend) and go out tonight. Saturday - Sunday is a crap shoot though!

I've been meaning to upgrade the OS on my android phone to the official Oreo release, maybe I'll have enough time to do that. Otherwise, it'll probably be some video games, and food shopping. Maybe something unusual like finish reading Congo. I started a couple months ago and then life got in the way :/

There's a lot in my life I have to catch up on, but it's all disorganized to the point of no return, and it makes it difficult for me to focus on one task at a time, when all the tasks are blended together like computer wire spaghetti.
