Sun Ra - Space Is The Place You have to be really far down the rabbit hole into 70s jazz to dig this one.

Joon Moon - Moonshine Corner Pop or indie or something? It's chill, and the singer is really good.

Gonna double up on my rec. for Lanquidity as a good Sun Ra intro for those interested. Much less... abstruse than Space. Just like not everyone should jump right into Beefheart's Troutmask Replica...

Just like not everyone should jump right into Beefheart's Troutmask Replica (for the record: Safe as Milk is what you want), Space is the Place might be a bit much for the beginner, although in your case, apparently not (kudos!)

The OST for Celeste was really good, not sure I'd listen to it much outside the game though. I also dig the Space is the Place love, that thing melts my brain.

Yeah, I have a hard time getting through all of Space Is The Place at one time. I can either do the first track or the last 5 in one sitting. Love it though.

Try Lanquidity or Cosmos sometime, I tend to think they're more palatable to those not steeped in free-jazz, anyways.

You just brought me down a huge rabbit hole that is the Celeste OST. This is amazing. It's like 8-bit, upbeat Tycho! Thank you!!

Stars of the Lid - The Tired Sounds of the Stars of the Lid - Absolutely one of the most beautiful minimalistic albums I've ever heard. Ever want to sound like you're floating in space but also that you might die at any second but you would also be just fine with it? Try this.

Munly & The Lee Lewis Harlots - Gothic Country is now one of my favorite genre names. Album just sounds massive in scope while still contained from track to track, has some stories it wants to tell about old America that aren't pretty at all. Very interesting, one of my favorite things I've heard in a long time.

Shiro Sagisu - The End of Evangelion OST - I watched both Neon Genesis Evangelion and End of Evangelion recently, and there were some absolutely beautiful musical moments in EoE that made me have to listen to its soundtrack. Komm, süsser Tod is the obvious highlight, but there's plenty of amazing other tracks here that stand up even outside the movie context, in my opinion.

I really just can not get enough of this album. Kanye and Cudi nailed every track and Cudi has been redeemed by the power of Ye.

I think Fantano say's it best for me, I agree wholeheartedly with his review:

I like that album, but I've been taking a break from Kanye since Ye came out. With the last song on Ye something just clicked into place that misogyny in hip hop is a problem. Like of course it's always been a problem, but then I saw a thread on /r/kanye where all of these users (a lot of them younger) were looking at the lyrics of "Violent Crimes" and saying this is how women should be treated. Glad you're digging KSG though, it's got some gems.

Vigri - NÚNA Really enjoying the Melodic and chill sounds of this album, I've been a long time fan of Vigri since their first album and this one just improves on their unique style of music. They're a small band from Iceland that deserves way more fans than they have.

Igorrr - Savage Sinusoid Igorrr once again brings their signature sound in their latest album, the quality of this album is absolutely one of the highest I've heard in a while, I'm absolutely loving the mix of breakcore with real instruments. It's either you love it or you really don't like it with Igorrr, but they're worth checking out.

I've been listening to this NWOBHM act called Demon again. They started out as, like I said, a New Wave of British Heavy Metal act with Mal Spooner serving up guitar solos and licks by the dozen and some fun keyboards in Night of the Demon. They built a respectable following, but were never as big as Saxon, let alone Def Leppard and Iron Maiden. Hell, I'm pretty sure Diamond Head and the Tygers of Pan Tang made a bigger splash. But after The Unexpected Guest, they started doing progressive rock and got dropped by the original label because their third album, The Plague, was a dystopian concept album straight out of the backstory of V for Vendetta.

I've also been listening to former Nightwish vocalist Tarja Turunen's solo work. I've loved her voice ever since I first discovered Nightwish in 2000, and I buy both her rock albums and her classical albums, but I have to admit that the songwriting on her rock albums is often quite uneven. I'd love to see her work with Christofer Johnsson as part of Therion if they go back to doing symphonic metal after Beloved Antichrist. Then again, I wonder what Galneryus would be like with Tarja on vocals. :)

I've been starting to get into Black Sabbath recently and started listening to their first four albums, my favorites so far being Master of Reality and Black Sabbath Vol 4. This of course rekindled my love for Rage Against the Machine and the earlier Metallica Albums.

Separately I've also been listening to a lot of Queen and Billy Joel Albums. I've always been a big fan of Night At the Opera and News of the World, and have ventured into Jazz and Hot Space. As far as Billy Joel goes, I've become very interested in his first album Cold Spring Harbor.

Odd Couple(1,2) - They are a rock band from Berlin with german texts and got a lot of this 70s krautrock style - besides that some tracks remind me of the old Black Sabbath. Even though they got german texts I have the impression, that they could build up an international fanbase

IDLES (1,2) - IDLES are a punk band from England. I was listening a lot to their last album, after i moved to Berlin an was fucked up about my new job. Their last album was pretty dark and heavy and to my mind, the main focus was on death of the frontman´s mother. The tracks from the next LP are more abstract/holistic. Samaritans is about toxic masculinity and Danny Nedelko is about Solidarity with immigrants. I´m super excited about their new LP, cause they are tackling some issues I was thinking a lot about the last months.

Júlio Cruz - Thank U - I didn´t wanted to end this post with just Rock or Punk Tracks." Thank U" is a proper House Track with a beautiful sample from Alicia Myers and a good track for friday evening.

So as I mentioned ~ a week ago is the one time of the year where I pretty exclusively listen to nothing but the Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia Band (although, I made a few exceptions here and there). Known as the "Days Between", it's a mini-holiday that celebrates the 8 days between Jerry's birth (08/01) and death (08/09). I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, so I've mostly refrained from posting Dead, JGB, LoM etc. on this sub, but I'm fairly upset with myself.

You see, I do a radio show (or, I do when I'm not overwhelmed with my PhD as of late), and this week is one of my biggest events. In the past, I've done really fun shows such as 3-hour set of original versions of tunes the Dead covered, arranged in roughly show-like order, and a 3-hour jam session that was seriously heavy on the brainstem. This year though? One week I forgot to do anything (and I only had a few hours of sleep to boot, thanks PhD!), and the next I had a doctor's appointment to look at my broken foot / leg, and couldn't do a show :/.

Even worse, I'm about to graduate (ok, ok, I'm kidding, that's actually amazing), and that means I'm about to be done with my show (at least, at the current FM station). I have another radio station lined up that I hopefully can keep going on in the future, but who knows? I feel like I may have squandered my last chance to do the only thing (besides my Frank Zappa specials, which are even more esoteric and wild) that I think are about as close as an artistically untalented person such as myself gets to that mythical thing we call 'art'.

I don't know where I'm going with all this, but I guess it doesn't really matter anyways

My taste is kind of all over the place, but ehhh... this week:

Preservation - Del tha Funky Homosapien and Aesop Rock. I'm a big Aesop Rock and Del(tron) fan and this song is real good. I guess this is technically a Wu-Tang song, although that's more on the production end (which is great), since it's just Del and Aesop on the track.

Amidinine - Bombino. Bombino sings in Tamasheq so I could not say what this song is about if my life depended on it... but it's real good. Particularly for roadtrips. Great guitar tone, as well.

Dolly Parton - The Story. This one's from an album of covers of Brandi Carlile songs. Dolly's is the stand-out, but Kris Kristofferson's take on "Turpentine" is great also.

Franco el Gorila - Reza por Mi. The angriest-sounding man with the saddest song.

Tabhair dom do Lamh - Chris Thile and Brad Mehldau. I tune out a lot of takes on Irish music since I never like them (they're either too much or too little), but I gave this one a shot since my grandma used to sing the tune and I'm familiar with Brad Mehldau. I'm really glad I listened -- it's just right. The piano is evocative of Oscar Peterson, which I think is just about the nicest thing anyone can say about anything.
